Project 6: Photo Nº2: The mother who takes care of you.

The mother who takes care of you.
by Álvaro del Río.

DiminaJasiala is the woman in the picture and she is a beautiful woman, she´s holding a baby in a purple sweater and with two cute pink tiny socks. She is wearing a bright golden dress, golden like the sun, golden like  hope.
Her face is turned with a caring look in her eyes, the kind of caring look that mothers have when they see their children playing . You should know that she always carried that look since the late 80s due to the fact that she hashad more than three hundred and fifty children. Her story is a story of hope and kindness in the poorest neighborhood in Nairobi, Kenya.
Her story began in 1998 when she had been working as a housekeeper for 19 years and having four children, she found a little baby in the rubbish and decided to take care of her. After that she started receiving abandoned children even the ones whose mothers had AIDS. Dimina and a few neighbours decided to turn their home  into a home for street children and make sure that they receivedan education, even though Dimina is illiterate. That´s why she is best known as MamáTunza which in suajili means "the mother that takes care of you".
That´s why she is a beautiful and strong woman, because she made that by herself and by the kindness of one of the poorest neighborhoods in the world that supported her until 2007 when aan NGO finally started supporting her. This is only one example of what Africa is capable of, because it is the forgotten land and it shouldn´t be, so next time you think of Africa think about this and all the things that it can teach you.

Project 6: Photo Nº1: The third one.

Detective Smith was standing quietly watching the horrifying scene that was in front of her, there was fear in her eyes as she was turning to me, “It Is the third,” she said, then I took a look at what she was saying, the extra awfulness of that scene, to the dog that was being held by the dead arms of the corpse, "the Taxidermian" had murdered again. I don´t like the word, but it was the name that the papers had nicknamed the killer.
The first one was an old lady in her old-fashioned Victorian house and a dissected raven was found near the victim, we thought then that the raven was part of the house but then, a week afterwards an old fat train driver was found dead with a dissected snake around his neck. The papers started having "The Taxidermian" as headlines that week, I can even imagine tomorrow´s headlines "The taxidermian hits again" in the papers, and something like "Are the police as dissected as the animals founded with the victims?" in the tabloids.
Detective Smith called me out of my thoughts when she moved the dog to let the forensics examine the victim, “Like the other two, this gentleman doesn´t seem to have any remarkable bruise or sings of a fight, it seems like you are going to have to wait for the autopsy to establish the cause of death,” the forensic said. "Yeah, like the other two,” I replied.
I wasn’t very happy with the work that the forensics were doing, all my team in general, all of them were so dumb, so average, none of them found or were following any of the clues that I was leaving on the corpses.

Project 4: English through literature.

JAMES JOYCE. "Two Gallants"
James Joyce was born on the 2nd of February 1882, in the Dublin suburb of Rathgar and died the on the 13th of January 1941 in Zurich after ulcer surgery.
His best known novel is "Ulysses"(1922). He studied English, French and Italian at University College Dublin. Although he spent most of his life abroad, he set most of his novels in Dublin. He lived in Trieste, Paris and Zurich, where he had to moveto due to the fact that the Nazis had conquered France.
Other titles inhis bibliography are: "Chamber Music"(poems,1907), Dubliners (short story collection, 1914) and "Exiles"(1918).
Two Gallantsis a short story written by the Irish writer James Joyce, published in 1914 in ananthology of short stories called "Dubliners".
This story is about two friends that are walking around the city, whose names are Corley and Lenehan, and Corley is telling Lenehan about her new relationship with a girl, and he is talking about her in a very disrespectfulway, being proud of the fact that she stole things from the house where she works just to give them to him, like cigarettes.
Then the readerrealizesthat they are going to an appointment with this girl, and Lenehan is just accompanying Corley to the date, then they see the girl in the end of the street near a lamp and they looked at her from a distance. Corley continues walking to meet the girl whilstLenehan goes to dinner peas while he is waiting for Corley. Finally Corley came back and met Leneham and shows him a gold coin that the girl had just stolen from the house where she works.
At the end you realize that both men were planning that from the beginning.

My personal opinion about the story is thatit is hard to understand all the details in a second of bachillerato good level of English, I mean in my case after reading it slowly twiceyou get the main point but you missed most of the shades, the aspects of the novel. I think that if I had a better level of EnglishI would have gotten all of the nuances and would have appreciated the story or the writer more
I think that an averageEnglishperson would have the same problems if he or she reads a text written by Unamuno.
In conclusion, I think that maybe that kind of stories are higher than our current level, and that the presence of two bilingual people in the class doesn´t mean that the rest of us are able to read pure English literature. It´s great reading great writers such as Joyce, and it significantly increases our understanding of culturebesides our level of English, however I think that I would enjoy the storymore if I had the knowledge to enjoy every aspect.

Project 1: Presentation: Arquitecture (images)

Project 1: Presentation: Arquitecture (script)

Frank Lloyd Wright was born in 1867 in Wisconsin EEUU and he died in 1959.
He developed a new concept in modern architecture called organic architecture, that was created as a point of union between humans and nature.
The better example is Falling Water House:
Falling Water House or Kaufman´s residence was designed in 1935 for the bussines man Edgar Kaufman.
Is in Mill Run Pensylvania, besides the Bear Run river and it cost 155.000$: 75000$ the main house, 22000$ finishing and furnishing it, 50000$the guests house, the servant quarters and the garage, and 8000$ the architect fee.
The main problem about building it was that the north bank of the bear run river was not large enough to provide the necessary space for a typically house, so Frank solve it by using a modular structure with the help of two engineers to distribute the weight.
Falling Water House was the Kaufman´s family weekend home from 1937 to 1963, when Kaufman decided to donate the property to the state of Pensylvania. Now it´s open to the public as a museum.
The other Frank Lloyd Wrigt´s best known building is the Guggenheim museum of New York:
The museum is located in the 5 avenue in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, just in front of central park, and it permantly host a collection of impressionist, postimpressionist, early modern and contemporary art.
The building was opened the 21st of October of 1959.
The museum had two different reforms, the first one was in 1993 annexing a rectangular tower behind the main building to expand the spaces for the exhibition, and the last one that started in 2005 and finished in 2008 annexing a clompletely new building behind it for the same reason.
The main building consist in a central tower hat is support by a spiral that goes from floor to top all around the central dome in the roof, the spiral consist in a ramp about 500 meters long.
The sad story about the building is that Wright, couldn´t see it finished owing to the fact that he died six months before the building was opened.
